If you are in Southern California and have a run, a short anecdote, won a motorcycle, or what have you, you can see it in Hazy on the Details. You can e-mail me at hazyhd@aol.com or snail mail me at Hazel Perry c/o Thunder Press, 3300 Fernbrook Lane N Suite 200, Minneapolis, MN 55447
Yahoo! After a long, semi-hot summer (with no vacation) my favorite time of the year has arrived! Cool mornings, chilly nights and… toy runs! The invites are burning up my e-mail and it suits me just fine. The most recent was from Richard Wagner from Harley-Davidson of Glendale, who just happens to be the coordinator for the 24th annual Skid Row LA Toy Ride. This is one of the few toy runs where you actually get to see the kids your toys go to. Meet at H-D of Glendale for the festivities at 9 a.m. December 11. Kickstands are up at 11, when you will ride down to the Fred Jordan Mission for the toy distribution to homeless kids in LA. For info, call Richard at 818.484.5389 or Peter Daniels of ABATE Local 1 at 800.866.6601… And before that was the reminder one last time for the Totally Kids One More From the Heart Ride on November 13 from Honda Ray. As I’ve mentioned before, this is a no-frills ride, but well worth your time. Please look up www.totallykids.com and first thing you’ll see is a link to the ride brochure. The reason I’m telling you this is so you can adhere to the very strict list of items needed for the Totally Kids Center. This is a developmentally disabled children’s hospital with very little funding, so know that your gifts of things as simple as batteries make a huge difference. Stick with the list; they can’t use the toys that we so joyfully give to other runs, so save the stuffed critters for another toy run… Like the Pomona Valley H.O.G./ABATE 19 23rd annual Toy Run December 4. As always, this benefits Santa Claus Inc, one of my favorite charities. Still one of the best bangs for your biker bucks; the cost is only $8 and one unwrapped toy. There are always great vendors, a bike show, music and raffles. The Ontario Elks Lodge supplies the food and adult beverages and they’re also very reasonably priced! The run starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. at the Ontario Elks Lodge, 1150 W. 4th St. Ontario. Give event coordinator Pete Negrete a call at 909.364.1667 if you need further info. Hope I’ll see you at both of these; if you see me, be sure to say hi!… I’ll have more for you in December but know that I can’t possibly put them all in here—look for them online at www.thunderpress.net or just look up “Thunder Press Calendar” in your search bar—our brilliant web gals made it so it pops right up… Not a toy run, but a cool fundraiser: The Palm Springs USO is bringing us the Western BBQ on November 5, supporting military personnel as they come and go from the Palm Springs area. Relying solely on donations and fundraisers, they need your help! Look for music, lunch, raffle prizes and lots of fun. All bikers are welcome. This is a fundraiser and is $20 per person. Doors open at 12 p.m. at Pappy & Harriet’s Saloon, 53688 Pioneer Town Rd. in Pioneer Town. Contact Alice Broich (couldn’t possibly be related to Amy Broich, could she?), USO event coordinator at 760.413.1101 or shoot her an e-mail at alicebroich@aol.com… But speaking of runs, if you haven’t lined up all your vendors, I’ve run into a few these past few months. I met Christina Foster, who was manning the In The Wind booth at a recent event. They’re located in Covina, but give them a call for vendor info at 626.331.WIND… Deborah Covern was at a booth for the very cool Matt Rider Nostalgic Drag Racing Designs. She was also displaying her very cool clothing and jewelry. They’re out of Laguna Beach and can be reached at 949.338.3175… Used to be one of my favorites but I don’t smoke cigars as much as I used to, however, give a call to Scott Beaudreau of Fairway Cigars at 951.837.1199; he’s always a popular vendor… For something a little different, Ocean Promotions does custom embroidery, silk-screening, banners, photos and promotional pins and anything custom-printed. I met up with Cheryl Smith and Hannah Blume at a recent event—give ’em a call to invite them to your event (or if you need this kinda stuff in your biz) at 303.854.7006… Haven’t seen ’em in a while, so it was nice to see Sherrie from Gypsy Rebel (Resist Much, Obey Little). They’re a mobile vendor for fun “urban style” T-shirts, jewelry and baby clothes. Her number is 951.452.7095… I met Kathy Donovan and Anita Dice at the Soldiers Angels booth and looked up the website (www.soldiersangels.org). Pretty cool. Soldiers’ Angels is a volunteer-led nonprofit, providing aid and comfort to the men and women of the United States Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, veterans and their families. Check out the website to see how you can help… Of wrecking yard acquaintance, Junkyard Jeff sent me an e-mail with a hi-ya to a few of the folks he rides with. So howdy, to: Larry, Delado, Dawny, Pat, Mr. Miagi, Dennis, Gordon, Jamie, Kerria, Caddy Pat, Graham and Neidemier, all folks from the Santa Rosa Tongaleros. He also says to give a big thanks to Dennis (prez of the Sparks-Reno Tongaleros) and his honey, Double D (I didn’t ask), on another great party—the 3rd annual Boobalicious (even I can’t make this up, but someone did!) Street Vibes party up in Reno. Glad everyone had fun and lived to tell about it! And you guys, just so you know, this is all Jeff’s spelling, so if it’s wrong, you know who to go to!… That’s it for this column; one more month of Toy Runs to go. If you have any that I can’t possibly miss, get hold of me. As for the rest, you know what I want! Birthdays, anniversaries, well wishing, biker-friendly businesses, the gamut—I’ll get it in here—it’s my job! Remember to start your Christmas shopping astride your ride. You cannot believe how simple parking is! Plus you buy small stuff (in theory you know you don’t spend as much, but…). See you all next month. Enjoy your ride!
