SHARPTOWN, MD – With an eye on its Nov. 13 packing event, Operation We Care could use your help.

The program that packs care packages for our military personnel deployed overseas, is seeking donations of items to be included in these packages from home.

Donations are accepted in several locations around Delmarva, including Minuteman Press in Salisbury and Harley-Davidson of Seaford. Other locations include BB&T Bank in North Salisbury, Clear Channel Radio in Salisbury, First Shore Federal branches in Salisbury, Fruitland, Pocomoke, Berlin, Snow Hill, Ocean Pines and Millville, Sussex County Federal Credit Union locations in Seaford, Lewes, Millsboro and Milford as well as Dr. John Schneider’s office in Easton, WCTG Radio and Threadgoods in Chincoteague.

Suggestion lists of items being collected are available at each drop-off location as well as on the group’s web site at www.operationwecare.org.

Operation We Care is a community based project that shipped more than 1,500 boxes in its three and a half years, spending more than $7,000 in postage last year alone. All financial donations go directly to postage costs, using the US Postal Service’s flat rate, military discounted box.

The packing events align with Veterans Day in November, and Armed Forces Day in May.

If you know of a US Military member deployed in harms way, contact Operation We Care by visiting www.operationwecare.org or call coordinator Jeff Merritt at 410-713-8940.

The project has blossomed with the injection of school children and Girl Scouts decorating boxes before packing, and the warmth of the community donating items to be sent to the troops.

George and Shirley Jackson will also be on hand with their Scolls For The Troops, a project they started back in 1995.
