Oldest-known American-made motorcycle heads to auction

April 13th, 2012 | by: Motorcycle Industry Press Releases

FREDERICK, Md., April 13, 2012—After hanging on a dentist’s wall for 30 years and then being stowed in a garage and then a basement, a 1903 Indian motorcycle will have a new owner. On Saturday, April 21 at the Frederick County Fairgrounds bidders from around the world will compete to own a piece of two-wheeled history from Charlie Alder, Jr.’s estate.

“This motorcycle predates the Harley—the bike most Americans associate with homegrown motorcycles,” explained Steve Rinker, who runs Buck’s Indian, an Indian motorcycle restoration firm in Romney, West Virginia. Rinker added, “The handful of 1902 Indian models that were built were deconstructed, their parts used to build the 1.75-horsepower 1903 models. And, as far as we know, this is the only unrestored 1903 still in existence.”

Atlanticade Moves to a new Home – Again.

March 10th, 2012 | by: Ken Aiken

When I learned that this rally was moving to Summerside, Prince Edward Island in 2012 I picked up the phone and called its organizer, Dale Hicks, to get the story.                                            (more…)

Daytona Beach, Florida: Bike Week Appreciation Parade

February 24th, 2012 | by: Terry Roorda

Back after a 6 year hiatus, the much loved Community Appreciation Parade has returned!  Once an iconic event for several decades, the Bike Week Parade was sidelined in 2005 when the Daytona 200 was moved from aSunday to a Saturday event.  Local officials at the time weren’t convinced transportation officials could effectively move the 7,000 participants from the Ocean Center to the Speedway, along International Speedway Boulevard without bottlenecks and issues for emergency personnel to contend with. 5th Annual Biker Fusion - Daytona Bike Week

(February 21, 2012–Daytona, FL)  When event promoters Carrie Repp of R&R Promotions and Ken Conte of Rise Above Consulting first launched their ‘Biker Fusion’ fundraiser, they had no idea how much the motorcycle industry and other enthusiasts would take to the idea of coming together for a party during Daytona Beach Bike Week that would benefit a great cause.  Five years later and over 60 thousand dollars raised, both Conte and Repp wouldn’t have it any other way and are now organizing their 5th Annual Biker Fusion Party on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the Doghouse Bar and Grill on Main Street in Daytona.  The fundraiser will once again benefit Soldiers’ Angels, a volunteer-led non-profit that provides aid and comfort to active servicemen and women of the U.S. military as well as veterans and their families. Soldiers’ Angels go to great lengths to demonstrate care and concern for those who fight daily for our freedom and safety. (more…)
